About the Author
D. Stanley Eitzen (Ph.D. University of Kansas) is professor emeritus in sociology from Colorado State University, where previously he was the John N. Stern Distinguished Professor.� Among his books are Social Problems (with Maxine Baca Zinn and Kelly Eitzen Smith)and�Diversity in Families (with Maxine Baca Zinn and Barbara Wells), both of which received McGuffey Awards from the Text and Academic Authors Association for excellence and longevity over multiple editions. He is also the author and co-author of four Solutions to Social Problems volumes with Allyn &�Bacon;�Paths to Homelessness: Extreme Poverty and the Urban Housing Crisis (with Doug A. Timmer and Kathryn Talley); Sociology of North American Sport (with George H. Sage); and Fair and Foul: Rethinking the Myths and Paradoxes of Sport.� He has served as the president of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport and as editor of The Social Science Journal.

Maxine Baca Zinn�(Ph.D. University of Oregon) is Professor Emeritus�in sociology at Michigan State University. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Oregon. Her main research interests�are racial inequality, gender, and�family life. She is the author and co-author of many other books, including Diversity in Families (with D.�Stanley Eitzen and Barbara Wells),Social Problems (with D. Stanley Eitzen and Kelly Eitzen Smith), Women of Color in U.S. Society, Gender Through the Prism of Difference, and Globalization: The Transformation of Social Worlds. In 2000, she received the ASA Jessie Bernard Career Award.

Kelly Eitzen Smith received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Arizona.� She is currently the director of the Center for Applied Sociology and a lecturer at the University of Arizona.� At the Center for Applied Sociology she has conducted research in the areas of day labor, homelessness, poverty, urban housing and neighborhood development. Her sociological interests include gender, family, sexuality, stratification, and social problems.� She is also the co-author of Experiencing Poverty (with D.Stanley Eitzen), andSocial Problems (with D. Stanley Eitzen and Maxine Baca Zinn).

I ordered this book also for my class and it came right on time with the other book I had ordered from them, they actually shipped them together so I was happy about that. And of course its a used book so I it has minor wear but very minor. The book I have is in better condition that what the school library has. So I'm very happy that I got these books on time and I paid a good price for the condition they were in

Excellent, but noticeably biased.

This book is very good. It makes a lot of important points and is actually very, very, good for a textbook. The reason it is being given three stars, however, is that book- while very awesome, very easy to read, and very informative about social issues- is noticeably biased. Bias cannot be concealed, no matter how hard an author tries. I understand that. But the book is noticeably biased politically for one group over the other. I'm not a republican or a democrat, so it is annoying to see such petty quarrels bleed through into my social problems text. Despite it's blatant bias, however, the textbook is very, very, good and I would highly recommend it. Completely worth the buy.

This was an excellent book it had depth and various life alternated conflicts....The main characters Started off as being friends and then lovers then not liking each other than husband and wife as a result of an accident and then friends, lovers, husband and wife. This book reflect a true picture of the course of true love.... I Love this book because it was so detail ..you understand and love both characters. I wish she had another book for me to read (preferable the book about his brother Michael) because with a book this great i don't expect nothing but great things to come.

This was a light, easy read. Cute storyline and interesting characters. I would recommend it. It's not serious literature, but a fun. light-reading type of book. It's not available in print version for book club though. Only in e-reader format.

I just didn't like either lead character

I just didn't like either lead character. The book read like a soap opera almost (although for the part I read there were no actual sex scenes). Charlie has the unfortunate scene of find her father dead, her best friend Evan drives up to the family farm where she is, to offer support. She tells him in one sentence "I can handle everything", and then a few sentences later is asking "is this for real?" (her father being dead). um, hello, you found the body. I can understand stress and all that, but, as I said, up til this point, where I decided that I didn't want to waste any more time with this book, it was reading like a cheap soap opera.

Charlie is a plain girl who has been friends with Evan for five years. He tells himself early on that he can't base a relationship with Charlie on the fact that they are best friends and have lots in common. (apparently this guy wants a gorgeous, sexy future wife, as well as one with a brain)

I didn't like the book (as you have no doubt figured out by now), and I don't plan on reading more by this "author", should she write more books.

A Great Formula for Success!!

After reading, listening or watching all the other Law of Attraction stuff out there... this book helps to fill-in-the-blanks that were missing, or unmentioned in the other publications. Also, I like how brief the sections or chapters are... Make your point and move on to the next. Great stuff! Most others seem to go on & on just to support their assumptions, or prove a point. Jims' style is Very Good! So, if you are looking toward the New Year, and are thinking about Goal Setting... Read this book, and you will get a fresh perspective or alternative to the standard (or old) way of getting there from here. Now go "Get What You Want".

Couldn't get past the writing...

I really wanted to like this book. I'm familiar with a lot of Jim Edwards work and he has some great things going on, but about 37% of the way through this book I just got so frustrated at trying to 'read' it that I gave up and deleted the book from my kindle.

Between the typos, the half sentences and the constant repeating of the same sentences it just took too much effort to get through this book to see if there was anything of value in it (which I'm sure there is knowing some of his other work).

I will try other Edwards titles as I know he has some good points/ideas, I just hope they are better written than this one.

To me, Jim Edwards is a modern day Earl Nightingale...a man worth listening to.

Don't you just get annoyed with all this self-improvement rubbish? It seems that every day somebody is coming out with '5 steps to this' or '7 steps to that'. As I get older I realise that I learn more from people who speak, and more importantly ACT from a position of authenticity and real life experience. Someone who's really been where I want to go. Let me get one thing clear, by real life experience I mean someone who 'walks the talk'...and doesn't go around saying they know it all.

Jim Edwards is such a man.

I can't begin to imagine how much time and money I've wasted listening to the so called "self help" gurus. The situation got so bad that I made a pledge to not to buy another self help book, course, etc until I've thoroughly research the author. 99% of people don't make the grade unfortunately. Anybody who has made a career out of self improvement I dump immediately!!! These guys have no real life and business experience. They make a living out selling worthless claptrap by making things complicated. Since 2006, I decided to only listen to people who succeeded in something other than self improvement. Guys like Earl Nightingale and Frank Betger or Steve Jobs or Richard Branson.

Jim Edwards is a man worth investing time to listen to because he knows how to explain and share information in such clear terms. For example, I love the way he explains the 7 universal laws. For the first time I "get it" because he shows how he observes the laws and how he APPLIES them. I know he applies them because I've seen him do it again and again in REAL LIFE in his REAL business in the way he exchanges value with others. I've been a recipient of the value he has exchanged with me (many multiple times in fact).

I recommend you go through all his True Life Success lessons. They have become the cornerstone of my own life and business because Jim has shown me a true way forward.

Thanks Jim...I owe you big time :-)

Wish I never read it

I really liked this series, until I read this book. The best part was the end and i will only read it cause of how the author left it. That being said I feel like I have missed a book with all the happened.. The last book ended with everyone being happy now all that happiness has been taken away and you don't get the full story. Then she turns Belmont into a cheater just like her ex. At this point I don't want them together and wish she actually end up with Chuck , Belmont's brother. I very disappointed in this book and wish I never read it!!

Depressed me

I don't understand how you could mess with this couple. I was in a funk after reading this book hoping as I neared the end that things would work out but then why would Daisy take Belmont back after he walked out and then had an affair. Don't know how many couples could turn this around after having the evidenced presented in such a graphic manner. I'm hoping the next installment works out better but I'm uncertain whether I will purchase. I think I will re-read the very first book dealing with their initial hook-up. So I do not know that I can whole heartedly recommend this book.

I really didn't care for this book I hate when authors take a story and keep going and destroy the character's now Belmont is this nasty cold cheating business man and in book one he said he'll never hurt or cheat that she be the to hurt and leave him I just think some authors need to stop after the first two or three books before the destroy the character's after we fall in love with them I wish I didn't read this book I should've stop after say you love her I will not read the next daisy and Belmont book I'll just remember like the first one

Best part of these Serials yet

WOW this part packs in a TON of stuff. Babies are born to Carly and Brady. Carly makes her bond with Brady even deeper when she finally bites him back. Sierra is rescued and actually finds her true mate in Ashton, Annie is seeing a little action now too with Ian, Taylor and Keith are happy.
Lily is still up in the air about what will happen with Victor, but she is more on his side now than the people she once called friends. I would like to do serious bodily injury to Victor, no joke. I'm hoping a major butt kicking is in store for him.
I honestly cannot wait for part 6!
Violet Vaughn has made me a lover of serials and reading in a nice hot bath while my family asks if I am okay because of the laughing, swearing and "OMG ARE YOU SERIOUS?" that they have heard through out the first 5 parts.

wow what an crazy busy installment. There are rescues, weddings and babies! catch up with all the girls Carly, Sierra, Taylor, Lily and Annie. I received this for an honest review. WOW, just keeps getting better and better. Reminder this is not a standalone, so please go either listen or read the previous books in the series. The one thing I love about audios is no it gives a totally different feel to the book. With each book in this series you are not only get an amazing story but Erin DeWard does such an amazing job. I am so impressed with her talent. She has so many different voices and you are so able to tell by the voice which character is speaking. It is freaking awesome.

Now for the story itself. I keep trying to figure out Lily’s attraction to Victor. He has such an unexplainable hold on her. One I just don’t understand. He is so able to manipulate her way of thinking in a strange way. She is so taking back by his charm and looks. She is so innocent and does not even realize how much danger she is really in.

Victor still has Sierra. Things seem so dark for Sierra. You can only hope that her clan can save her. Victor keeps her well guarded and things just don’t look up for her. Sierra needs some good in her life before she loses her mind.

Ashton which is Ian’s twin does not even know that he is getting ready to find his true mate. Sorry not going to tell you who it is you will have to read or listen to the book to find out. But Ashton has been through so much. He has seen and had to do things for his country, so he could really use some good in his life.

Carly is getting close to her due date. Her and Brady are getting closer. There are some new turn of advents that I find funny when it comes to Brady and Carly, but sorry once again you will have to read or listen to find out. Trust me you will get a huge laugh out of it.

Taylor and Kieth are getting closer. They are planning a rescue mission for Keith’s ex-girlfriend Sierra. You have to wonder what fears Taylor is having during this planning. Don’t worry you will like somethings that happen with Taylor and Keith in this book.

Donna is Donna..LOL Love her to death. You can always rely on Donna to tell everyone like it is. She is such a huge strength in the family.

Annie well she is starting to learn to live. You will like somethings that is happening to her as well in this book.

Ian is having a great time. He seems to be taking it well that Lily does to want him. I have to say I am wondering about Matt. Have not heard much about him.

About the Author
Paul Pitchford is a teacher and nutrition researcher. In his healing work with individuals, he develops rejuvenative plans based on awareness and dietary practices. From Part I, Chapter 2: The Principle of ExtremesWhen the excessive principle reaches its limit, the extreme yin or yang transforms into its opposite. This is known as the “Principle of Extremes.” This principle is readily observed in warm-blooded animals, when a fever is produced in response to an exposure to cold, or when chills result from an excess of summer heat.Other examples: 1. Extreme activity, such as hard physical work, necessitates rest. 2. If activity is very fierce and yang (such as in war), death (which is very yin) can be the result. 3. People frequently become more child-like with extreme age. Also, with advancing years, a person gradually exhibits less physical strength but, if healthy, greater wisdom. This represents the loss of bodily attachment to earth and the shifting of focus toward heaven, an example of extreme yin changing to extreme yang. 4. As internal heat and blood pressure become higher (yang), a stroke resulting in paralysis (yin) becomes more likely. 5. Extremely energizing substances such as cocaine cause utter debility later. One also is eventually weakened by stimulants such as caffeine and refined sugar.6. In meditation, proper concentration on a single object ultimately results in universal awareness.The process by which phenomena change into their opposites may be described graphically with spirals, a very common pattern in the universe. These cycles of change are progressively quicker while contracting, slower while expanding. Such cycles are balanced by opposing cycles. For instance, when the national economy slows toward stagnation, cycles of emotional anxiety become ever more intense. Another pair of spirals illustrates the way in which metabolic cycles in the body take longer to fully repeat with age, with a simultaneously greater need for nutrients. For this reason, we need less quantity but more nutritionally concentrated food as we grow older.

A must own book!

This book is HUGE, 750 pages of amaziness! So worth every penny, you will not regret buying this book! This book is packed full of information, there is just enough information on TCM and about different illnesses, quite a bit on liver health and how it affects several areas of the body, I found very informative. Also a lot on the whole foods aproach and foods that are destructive to you body and the reasons why they should be avoided. There are recipes to try and for some a new way to look at your current constitution and if it is lacking you can determine which aproach to try to restore balance. Overall a great book, and a must for anyone who is interested in healing their body with whole foods.

This book saved my life.

My first copy of this book was given to me by my best friend who found out I had gall bladder disease, but couldn't get surgery for several months. She gave me her copy and I looked up my condition, what foods to eat and why. Within a week, my symptoms had eased, along with the pain, I could move my body smoothly and within a month had lost about 30 pounds. When I finally got my gall bladder removed, I had one stone the size of the end of my index finger. I had been slowly building toxic waste in my body and I truly believe had I not changed my diet and lifestyle, I was heading for a non reversible condition that could have killed me. I gave that copy of Healing with Whole Foods to a friend who needed some help and bought a newer version. Gave that away to another friend. Got a newer. I am on my fourth copy. I reference it quite often and with total confidence.

Terrific Reference Book

My mail person commented on the weight of this huge book as she struggled to carry it in her pouch to my door. At over 700 pages, this book should be purchased in the hard-cover edition. This edition actually weighs less than the soft-cover book. This is a work covering everything you ever wanted to know about using whole foods to cure anything that ails you, preventing diseases from starting, even using the fung shui system to classify foods. You can read this book from cover to cover, or pick a chapter of immediate interest. I will use this book for years to come as a reference book on all sorts of topics. I found a section near the end of the book on why root canals are not the option one should choose to repair a tooth. I wish I knew that many years ago. To learn how to eat properly, how to choose the foods you want to eat, and how to keep one's body in good health, are all reasons to buy this book. The vendor is swift to get the book to you in excellent condition. All in all, one of the best books I have ever purchased. It was suggested to me as a book to buy in a nutrition course I am taking at this time.

Science, conjecture or entertainment?

Engagingly written,this is a fascinating tour of British pre-history. As an American, I found myself floundering in the geography of the British Isles. A few maps would have been very helpful. I don't know much about archeology, and I was bemused by the depth of analysis displayed. I'd sum up my reaction by commenting that the author makes a whole stew out of one bean. Certainly entertaining, though.

Excellent summation and continuation of Dr. Pryor's research. It is not as easy a read as his earlier books but gives more background and philosophy on his research and the work of others.
