Modern Day Genius

William Shakespeare is recognized as the best writer of the English language. However, I find his verbage..confusing, excessive, tedious. But then I was not educated nor live in his time. I live in current times, and a similar genius of the English language, of her genre is Kitty Williams (PLEASE tell me that Kitty is short for something like, 'Kittarina'?...I have this.. image). Kitty's genius is in the opposite direction, her economy of words is.. incredible. well, well written with words that explain but also move the plot along, very, very rapidly. I love it. Fetish writers often tend to be among the worst abusers of excessive use of unnecessary words, I could name authors but will not. too much, description...too much self therapy..too much, too much. However, as I find her prose refreshing and exhilerating (I read her book in one sitting), at times, I yearned for.. a few more words. I have gone back and re-read sections...for sure, some parts need more words, more explanation. there was one place...not much more would be good.. but a few. Still a classic, I guess I will just have to buy the study guide when it comes out, or have my book club read it so we can discuss it...or watch the movie. If you like classy femdom...this is a MUST!

An ultimate study in erotic submission, erotic "death."

Shakespeare is not "confusing, excessive, tedious" as one reviewer suggests. His sonnets, especially are models of lucidity. Does anyone who has read Shakespeare at any length agree with the reviewer? No, though Kitty is perhaps my favorite erotic writer, she is no doubt "edged out" by Shakespeare, though I agree with the reviewer that she has, especially in this book, "Absolute Control," the gift of making every word tell. No wasted words and nearly every word exactly right. Her greater gift, however, in my opinion is her pitch-perfect sense of what makes for erotic sacrifice in the interests of titillation as the reader identifies either with the sadistic Fiona (for women?) or masochistic Peter (for men?) with a growing realization of the incredible arousal to be found in abject surrender to a punitive, sensual, and beloved goddess. Through all but the last pages of the story Peter is certainly not sexless but rather suspended in a state of constant arousal and tease. It is the cruelty of the goddess that makes possible degrees of subservience and sacrifice that would be impossible in a normal relationship. There is simply so much more for Peter to sacrifice and submit to as Fiona imposes her control. Note that the goddess gives to her victim the largess, the benefit, of tenderness, of deep emotional intimacy; she clothes the steel fist of cruelty in the velvet glove of sweet attentiveness, a measure of kindness. For example there is tender solicitude after beating Peter with the cane. His emotional breakdown under the cane, his screams, his tears, his terror only potentiate the intimacy afterward as his fa�ade of dignity is stripped from him. Peter makes rather bad "bargains" with Fiona which lead him from forced chastity (all the pleasures of sex are to be hers) to permanent chastity to cuckoldry to a deep indulgence in feminization -- he makes a very pretty submissive doll -- to chemical feminization and chemical castration so that his ultimate sacrifice is of that sexual nature which betrayed him into the black widow's web in the first place. Orgasm is called the petit mort, the "little death." Such might stand as a metaphor for Peter's experience of sexual sacrifice, sexual death. And still he serves Fiona, without pleasure other than his dependencies upon her. Is there in fact a "death instinct?" Some such instinct seems in the end to drive Peter, and drive Fiona on Peter's behalf.

I have to disagree with the low reviews, it is a great reed and very well written. You will however have to like the type of content and intensity of the book. It is on the extreme side of femdom. You will not like it if you are more into the lighter side of femdom. I will however agree that the author's books are pricy compered to other good femdom reads on amazon.

Very factual and less than imaginative; shallow analysis

As an avid reader, I thought many chapters of this book stated facts, ideas, and deductions that have been told and maybe even retold in other publications and best sellers. To me this book was quite redundant.

The book has 20 chapters and each chapter is written by a different writer associated with the Economist magazine.

For many chapters, the title was more noteworthy than the content. For example, in a chapter titled "The exponential future", the author basically restates the title. The future technology will grow exponentially and it will have profound (only couple of vague examples given) impact on the future. In another chapter lableled "The Asian century", the author states that China's rising population and economy will make a substantial impact on the global economy and the Asian economy as a whole. Oh really? So where is the deeper analysis and imagination?

If you have never read a book about the future trends (probably majority), then the contents in this book will be very noteworthy. I meet way too many Americans who are still stuck with "America is #1" mentality when America is quickly losing its edge in practically everything. For example, as this book states, did you know that America's life expectancy is not even top 30 in the world? The book also highlights that America's wealth doesn't coincide with its quality of life, which is low by OECD standards. Yes, Americans live way better than countries like North Korea, but its quality of life pales in comparison to many wealthier nations. The future doesn't look that much brighter either. It hurts me that America is losing its competitive and quality-of-life edge and it is frustrating to see how little of this is known by the general American public.

I recommend this book to the general population. I recommend it far less to those who are already familiar with much of the problems and advancements facing America and the world today how they might impact the future.

That chapter speaks my language and as I have written many, many times before, as a business you ignore the "tidal wave of change" at your peril. The book is a compilation of average journalistic articles about changes happening around us. No real insight as to what can be expected and what will be the real long-term and concrete impact from these changes. Try reading bold and insightful authors like Ray Kurzweil instead.

I love this series,but this book was very disappointing. The writing was choppy and didn't make sense in areas that you had to read it again to understand what happened. A n d the ending ........ all I have to say is "what the heck was that! "

Not Worth Reading - Or Spending Money On. . .

Adrian's Submission is the 4th book in the Quads of Alpha S Series. By the fourth book I expect more. More world building. More plot. More than a guy meeting up with his destined mates -- 80% sex and 20% story.

Adrian is straight. Yet by the end of this book he's begging for all four of his men and public sex. And that's all this story is as is the rest in this series - A human stranded on an alien planet and being 'claimed' by a group of men and brought into their lives as their sex slave. So then I wonder if these men have had sex with each other while waiting YEARS to complete their group.

Yes, by the 4th book I expect more. So we're finally getting a bit of a plot in protecting the Shadowlands and soliciting help from the other tribes and banding together. Is that plot executed? Sort of. The plan is in motion and the book ends. And what about the recovered space shuttle? Won't that be used to go back and forth safely and bring supplies? What about changing the humans so they'll be stronger and survive longer?

I'm very disappointed in how this series turned out. So much promise and it all fell flat. I'd advise not to invest in it - Not worth the money for the page space unless you like reading m/m/m/m/m sex. Lots of it. Oh yes and little plot. - Dan's Wife

A Good Read

I'm really enjoying the beginning of these series. I'm liking how the author is giving the point of view from each character. In the First book you got to see things from Brett's perspective, and now in this one you get to see things from Bill's perspective. I'm really looking for to see of things progress as the series goes one. The author really thought things out thoroughly when writing this story line. I would recommend anyone thinking about reading this book, first you definitely have to read book 1 before this book or you will miss some really important points and pieces to this story. To get a clear idea and view of this story read the books in order because each book has its own cliffhanger.

I just finished this whole series, and LOVED IT. Read all of them, in order. :-) I read the first one on a whim, thinking it was a standalone short... and it could have been for just a quick, hot first time gay read... but book2 promises that it will become a legit romance, and book3 fulfills that promise. Before I picked up book2 (this one) I read another review stating that this one switched character point of view and I was like... ... .. what? That's weird. And then I read it, and loved it. Great storytelling to go along with the super hot sexy times.

Book 2 of a trilogy. This is from the point of view of Bill and he gives a better overview of their prior relationship. I love the Taylor character; he just cracks me up. Poor Brett just can't catch a break. Still loving this series.

Okay at Best

This was a decent short story, which introduces readers to Juliet E. McKenna's The Hadrumal Crisis fantasy series. The Wizard's Coming might actually be a true prequel to that series, but since I've not read it, I'm not sure. The focus of the tale, however, is on Lord Halferan, who has contacted a wizard from the wizard isle to come to his small realm's aid against the corsairs from the sea.

McKenna starts things off by introducing a reader to a group of warriors waiting by the sea for sign of the approach of ships, and then their desperate flight back to their lord to give him word of the arrival of said ships. From there, the viewpoint shifts to Lord Halferan himself as he attempts to save his people from the corsairs only to find himself confronted by a danger he should have been expecting but blinded himself to.

Whenever I read a short story or novella that is an "introduction" to a fantasy series, I always worry that the author is not going to be able to pull it off: i.e. make me want to read their series. Honestly, it is difficult to write a gripping intro story that sets up a trilogy. It can be done, but it is difficult. And usually, the writers who fail make one of two glaring mistakes: either they do not give me enough details about the world to make it interesting, or they info dump me to death in order to let me know how great their fantasy setting is. Unfortunately, McKenna makes the former mistake.

In The Wizard's Coming, a reader is thrown into the action from the beginning with little understanding of what is going on. Even when Lord Halferan makes an appearance to begin clearing up the confusion, the story rapidly speeds up, hurtling toward completion with the reader still scratching his or her head as to why any of this is occurring. When you add to this the minute world building, you could probably understand my reservations about this story.

Now, is The Wizard's Coming a horrible read?

Not at all. It is entertaining. Unfortunately, it did not excite me or make me desire to try out the fantasy series, which is disappointing. So keep this in mind if you try this one out.

The characters in this book drive a convoluted and unique plot that revolves around the consequences of some people having magic and immense power while others don't. The characters are entirely believable and the conflict between them carries the reader past the occasional slow spot.

I think there are much better action/wizard/adventure books and stories out there. This is a short read and leaves the reader frustrated to understand more of what is going on. it's ok.

Homey old-fashioned cooking

You will find lots of homey old-fashioned recipes in this cookbook that are easy to prepare. For example I made the Swiss Steak recipe that used tomato sauce. I substituted thinned out tomato soup instead and the recipe worked just fine. The recipe was cooked and then frozen for later eating. When prepared the steak was absolutely tender and delicious.

You will find lots of preserving recipes that help round out the meal.

Finally, the author keeps the cookbook friendly and homey through her well written chapter introductions telling about the recipe history.

Overall, highly recommend.

"Look what Mama made!"

Growing up in the Amish and Mennonite community, this cookbook was our second bible. I wanted to purchase this cookbook for a gift for my son and every retail shop was sold out. Thank goodness for Amazon! My son loves using the recipes and it brings back fond memories of Pennsylvania Dutch cooking. I recommend the apple dumpling recipe which during the summer time my Mom use to make for dinner after a hot day working and playing at our farm. Every recipe is a true representation of our Dutch cooking. The book arrived in the time frame as indicated and was in great shape. Recommend for those who want to experience the seven sweets and seven sours of our traditional cooking!

What a collection of recipes!

I was looking for recipes like what I grew up with in the Midwest. Many of the people I knew in Kansas originated in Pennsylvania and before that in Europe. I wanted recipes similar to the German/Polish/Russian, etc. recipes I grew up with and that my husband grew up with. This has some recipes that are, I agree, high in fat, but many can be tweaked without hurting the flavor. Also, keep in mind, that our grandparents tables were set with relishes and preserved foods that rounded out the meal (sweet and savory), and serving sizes were often not as huge as ours are now. The preserved foods were satisfying to the taste buds without being high in calories...at least not in the amounts eaten. There are a LOT of recipes in this book, and many of them are truly worth making. I found a few that I thought were odd, but their presence only added to the book's charm. The additional history of the recipes is a bonus, and I have not only cooked from it, but I have enjoyed just sitting and reading it.

All time favorite series!

I can honestly say that the Charley Davidson series is my all time favorite. Darynda Jones has cracked the code of keeping a series fresh even after 10 books. I love every character in this series and they all play such an important role in what makes this series so amazing. In Eleventh Grave in Moonlight Charley is up to her usual Private Investigating activities while also dealing with the paranormal danger that is hanging over the gangs heads. The combination of the two is just perfect and makes the read so enjoyable.

In each book we discover new things that may rock Charley and Reyes world. But they are not without support from their friends and family. These group of people are amazing, I especially love Angel. His scenes are my favorites and I just love his interaction with Charley. In this book Uncle Bob is acting really strange, but nobody knows what is going on. We get to see more of Reyes' past and it is heartbreaking. Also Charley takes a case where she has to investigate Reyes' foster parents which Reyes is against. He does his best to get her to drop the case, but Charley is very headstrong and goes against his wishes. Reyes is still my number one book boyfriend, he is such an alpha male and very protective. The love between Charley and Reyes is perfect.

This book is a phenomenal addition to the series. It just gets better and better and the ending has me anticipating the next book like an addict. My love for the characters has grown stronger each book and I just hope this series never ends. I see the characters as part of my family and I cry when they cry and laugh when they laugh. This series is the only one that can make me laugh out loud one moment and cry the other. Charley is the best and I love her quirky and crazy ways, she is one of a kind and I can't wait for Reyes and her to reach their full potential. All the characters continue to grow each book and their bond becomes stronger.

The Curse of Tenth Grave left Charley with a lot on her plate, as per usual. Yes, she banished one rogue god to the god-glass necklace, but she still has one at large and needs to figure out how to take care of him, as Beep’s survival is on the line. Then, there’s the fact that she’s still trying to come to terms with her own godhood, her beef with Jehovah over which has caused his ever-vigilant angels to follow Charley around wherever she goes, plus the fact that Uncle Bob’s life may still be in danger despite having saved him from his foreseen death previously.

To top it all off, though, Charley is officially hired by Reyes’ sorta-kinda-in-a-way-brother Shaun to look into his adoptive parents the Fosters, and to find his real parents. Just a reminder: the Fosters are the people who stole Reyes from his birth parents and eventually sold him to the evil Earl Walker. Of course Reyes wants Charley to drop the investigation, but, come on; this is Charley Davidson we’re talking about. The moment she backs away from anything is the moment hell freezes over….oh wait.

I always love being back in Charley’s world and Eleventh Grave is certainly on par with all the wit and humor we’ve come to know and love from our grim reaper/god.

I’ve felt that ever since she had Beep, subsequently lost then regained her memories, and learned she is a god, there’s been an increased level of maturity to Charley, which is a nice element of growth to her character. Probably one of my favorite things about Eleventh Grave is that we get to see Charley really learn about and start to hone her powers, with Reyes acting as Charley’s Yoda/Obi-Wan—albeit with a bit more sexytimes however. Constantly, people are telling her what she’s able (or should be able) to do with her powers and she’s always been clueless. So it was really nice to see Charley gain some perspective on who she is because she still equates herself as human and it just isn’t true. But I do like the fact that Charley hangs on to her humanity, especially in the face of what we learn about her history.

Having said that, what really kept Eleventh Grave from being a five-star rating was the fact that I felt as though it was too jam-packed full of varying leftover storylines. I felt like all the open story threads from Tenth Grave were kind of just check-marked off the list to clear the way for what is happening in the next book, which is all set-up within the last maybe five to ten percent of the book. Unfortunately, I felt like a few scenes could have been throwaways because the resolution was just so quick.

That’s not to say Eleventh Grave wasn’t an enjoyable read. It certainly was. It just felt more transitory for me than revelatory. There’s a certain point towards the end where you get a definite feel of where the story will be heading in the next book, and I just wanted to tell Charley: “No! Bad Idea!” But alas, this is not a Choose Your Own Adventure book. So we’ll have to wait until fall to find out The Trouble with Twelfth Grave.

Great Story And Things Are Happening Faster Plus Another "WTF Just Happened" Ending

Well here we are 11 books deep into this series and we have some major movement on some things that go all the way back to the beginning of the series. Several mysteries are cleared up here and Charlie comes into her power a bit more.

This series has always had a bit of a formula about it but that has never lessen my enjoyment of these novels almost without exception. Charley is learning to make peace with the fact that she is a goddess with a lot of untapped powers which we get to see a few more this time around and we get glimpses of almost everyone we have gotten used to seeing and missing maybe 1 or 2 we expected to see in minor roles.

As always the real reason I love this series is not the actual plot (GASP!) but the humor which I love and wish I had t-shirts with a lot of these sayings not to mention the humor in the stories.

I have read many readers that get totally OCD over her naming of almost everything and while I think most of it is a bit silly it does nothing to interfere with what I consider some of the most entertaining stories around.

The romance is always so passionate it has almost gotten to the point of commonplace but this book is going to throw us several bones that end plot-lines that have been teasing readers for several books and as always she throws in a new storyline for the next book on the last page. It used to be frustrating but I have gotten used to it and don't really consider it a cliffhanger since it almost always starts a whole new story (as this one does).

Bottom Line: I loved it, loved the humor, loved the story, love the characters pretty much everything, I love the way she interjects a dose of reality into these stories, I was a bit concerned after last book with some serious anti-Judaeo/Christian elements but these are slowly smoothed over I thought as the book progresses and Charley sees that things are not as she thought them to be. So 5 Stars again and I can't wait for the next one since this ending was in the "WTF just happened" category .
